I was born in the Dominican Republic, an island in the Caribbean Sea where I have my roots. My family relocated to the United States in 1969. I have completed my high school studies in the USA and then i went back to the island to do my university studies. I graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and auditing from a prestigious university in the Dominican Republic, then I came back to the USA and continued my university studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from the Bronx Community College in the city of New York in 1990. I also attended Edison College in Naples Florida and graduated & licensed as a real estate sales associates in 2004. While I was working in the banking industry, simultaneously I was practicing real estate as a hobby. Now real estate has become my full time career. I am a sports lover, baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, fishing, boating, etc. Although my favorite is “baseball” as I used to play in the “short stop” position in my years of youth and the fact that baseball is the most popular and famous sport in the Dominican Republic, my place of birth. Mike Doto grew up in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania and then spent 26 years in State College Pennsylvania where his two daughters were born and raised. He moved to Florida in January of 1997. Ken King was born in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley of New York State. After spending his grade school years in west central Georgia where he excelled in baseball and expanded his love of the outdoors, he returned to the Hudson Valley in his teens where he remained active in sports and outdoor activities. In his late teens and early 20’s Ken was active in the Professional Rodeo circuit with his older brothers and worked with many local Contractors doing remodeling projects and excavation. He enjoys working with and training animals and was a beekeeper while living in New York. His love of the outdoors and his abilities to envision and produce beautiful landscapes lead him to the construction industry until which time he felt the need to try to make a difference in Law Enforcement. After retiring from Law Enforcement, Ken returned to the Construction Industry where he worked managing an excavation and rock crushing company eventually becoming a Project Manager/Job Superintendent for a Bridge Building company. In January 1996 purely by accident, Ken and his wife Karen stumbled upon Sanibel while taking a break from building their dream house in the Tampa/St. Pete area. Driving across the causeway for the first time in the midst of a great storm, they both immediately knew this was where they wanted to call home. They returned later that season and closed on their first Sanibel home April 4, 1996. For the next 20 years he spent as much time as possible on Island getting to know the lifestyle, the people and the landscape. He began volunteering for the Ding Darling Wildlife Sanctuary and C.R.O.W. Ken is now excited to begin a new role at the Wildlife Sanctuary as a CDL driver for the new W.O.W. As a Chicago native, Jim brings a lifetime of Construction Management and Real Estate Development experience to the Sands Commercial Group. He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and then served as a Combat Engineering Lieutenant in Germany. Upon his return, he received a full scholarship and obtained his MBA in Production Management from the Kellogg Business School at Northwestern University. Jim was later introduced to the Real Estate Development industry as an Owners Representative for a private group of investors and subsequently became President of Intercontinental Engineering & Development Corp, a company working on both private and FHA projects where he directly oversaw development concepts, zoning, finance, construction, lease management and sales marketing. The private side was devoted to creating industrial parks; building and leasing spec flex and warehouses. The FHA side developed and built Section 8 multi-family units and planned unit housing communities, with over 3,000 units completed. Jim left his position at Intercontinental to become the Director of Real Estate for Oakridge Holdings, a large national development and holding company with projects and interests throughout the United States where he traveled extensively doing work-outs and project modifications on everything from residential and commercial developments to golf courses and cemeteries. With this experience, Jim formed a partnership with his friend who was the Regional Manager of a major construction company doing heavy construction at O'Hare International Airport. Their company, Euclid Construction/Management, devoted one half of their efforts on construction projects for others and one half to projects for retention. There was a diversity of work which included new construction, retro-fitting and renovation and a specialty was developed in the automotive area. His partner oversaw the construction, while Jim was responsible for concept, design, financing and leasing. Upon his partners' death, efforts were made to dispose of their investments which triggered Jim's move to Estero, Florida with his wife of over 55 years, "Didi". They were drawn to Southwest Florida's quality of life, weather and exciting growth potential as a place to expand Jim's career as a Real Estate Advisor. In addition to Jim's successful and active career, he has always found time to be active in philanthropic endeavors. Janka’s passion for real estate came as a result of extensive travel both in Europe and U.S. admiring different architectural styles and designs. She always enjoyed being involved in real estate transactions, remodeled several homes and overseen new construction for herself, family and friends. Utilizing extensive experience in project & operational management in a multinational environment gave Janka the opportunity to start a new career and turn her passion for real estate and working with people into a full time profession proudly joining the VIP Real Estate team. I grew up in a small town in Western New York named Batavia, where I learned the value of hard work early on. I began taking jobs after school by 14 to save money so I could enroll in a foreign exchange program in Granada, Spain. I lived there in 1988 and learned to speak fluent Spanish. Upon my return to the US, I studied at Ohio University in Athens and State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo. After many years of slush and snow, I moved south to North Carolina and opened my own business in historic downtown New Bern. Owning and operating my cafe taught me about marketing, time management, buying and selling and creating success. In 2001, I was recruited by Sysco Foods as a Sales Associate, which afforded me extensive training and education in sales and marketing by one of the best companies in the USA. I sold my business and retained the real estate, renting it out for many years. I worked and grew with Sysco for years before meeting and marrying the love of my life, Ian, a native southerner. Soon after our wedding, we moved to sunny Sanibel in 2006. It was a comfortable move for both of us since I’d been visiting the islands every year since 1972 and Ian’s family had started coming in the 1930’s. We both worked in the hospitality industry for several years, gaining knowledge about the islands, making friends and getting involved in local events. Ian is now employed at the Sanibel Library full time and I’m a real estate professional, and we are firmly rooted here. Community service has always been important to me as my parents modeled it. I have served on the Board of Directors for the Sanibel Community Association, the Sanibel-Captiva Optimist Club, the Little Lake Murex Home Owner’s Association, The Captiva Chapel by the Sea, and the SanCap Realtor’s Association. I enjoy giving my time and energy to help others and have founded several annual events for charitable organizations on the islands. I volunteer at Big Arts, SanCap Cares and the library. When not working or volunteering, I enjoy traveling, and pursuing athletic activities like running, bicycling. I keep very active since adopting 2 small pups named, Kernel & Nugget. Our pups love traveling with us, walking on the beach and will do anything for a ride in the Jeep! They also love walking down the street to Grandma’s house for treats! I’ve enjoyed a life here on Sanibel that most people dream of, and I’d love to make it possible for you, too.
